Home Boutique Business

I have started stitching from home, but how do people actually find a new boutique?

Ayesha Rahman asks

A question we hear often
I am in Kochi and have converted one small room at home into my stitching space. I have made clothes for relatives and neighbours, but I don't know how to move from those few orders to regular customers without spending a lot on advertising.

ONSA's Answer

One small room and a handful of orders from relatives is exactly how most home boutiques actually begin — it just doesn't feel like a 'real' start while you're in it. The good news is your first proper customers rarely come from advertising; they come from people who've already seen your work being happy enough to mention your name to someone else. Make that easy for them — a couple of nice photos on WhatsApp, a gentle nudge to pass your name along after you deliver. Once you notice which kind of order keeps bringing repeat customers, that's the point to start putting real effort, and maybe a little budget, behind promoting it.
